Saving the planet... one garment at a time!

... and one upcycle at a time... Welcome to my blog: A place to have an "over the fence conversation" about sewing, altered couture, upcycling, and all kinds of crafts using found objects, beads, ephemera and other vintage finds!

About Dee

I've been sewing for approximately 40 years, having learned in a junior high home ec class.  During this time, I've made many, many dresses and costumes.  Some of my favorites have been elaborate medieval gowns, a Victorian walking suit, and many award winning dance costumes and tutus for my daughter, one of which was a restyle of my mother's wedding gown.

I love retro fashion and vintage finds, so when not sewing or crafting you can find me at flea markets, yard and estate sales, thrift shops and any other place one finds the interesting and re-usable!

Seams Sustainable is a home-based, woman owned artwear business founded with the following goals in mind:  1) economical and ecological re-use of fabrics and softgoods; 2) sewing new garments from natural fiber fabrics; 3) re-purposing and upcycling used garments into new wearable art; and 4) promoting and teaching sewing as a sustainable living skill.

I strive to accomplish these goals while creating as little waste as possible, remaining true to environmentally and socially conscious values, using as many recycled or natural products as possible in my work and purchasing materials from charitable resellers whenever possible.
